Classical Virgin Mojito Mocktail Recipe

Do you want a drink that is fresh, minty and gorgeous? Let’s make the Classical Virgin Mojito Mocktail using my Classical Virgin Mojito Mocktail Recipe.

Never really been someone that loves the outdoors but this weekend, my girlfriends insisted that we are going to the beach.

It’s a hot Saturday afternoon. The week has ended and we are chilling on the beach, craving something refreshing and but we don’t want alcohol.

That’s when the Classic Virgin Mojito Mocktail came in. It gave the vibe of having a party in a glass without any of the alcoholic stuff.

This drink is fresh, minty, fizzy, and it looks absolutely gorgeous. Plus, it’s way cheaper than buying fancy drinks like Chocolate Freak Shake and Mocha Hot Chocolate Starbucks at restaurants, and once you know how to make it, you’ll feel like a professional bartender.

So here I was with a glass of this beautiful drink, glistening in the afternoon light. Inside the glass is crushed ice, fresh green mint leaves, and bubbles fizzing their way to the surface.ย

With no artificial colors, no weird chemicals, just fresh ingredients that taste amazing together.

So, I got home and decided to make one, and I’m excited to share the process with you in this post.

What exactly is a Classical Virgin Mojito Mocktail

A glass of Classical Virgin-Mojito Mocktail

Let’s start with the basics. The regular Mojito is a Cuban drink that has rum (alcohol) mixed with mint, lime, sugar, and fizzy water.ย

But the Classic Virgin Mojito is exactly the same thing, but without the rum. That’s it! Some people also call it a “Mojito Mocktail”, mocktail just means a cocktail without alcohol.

This drink originated from Cuba, the Cubans found out that mint, lime and a little sweetener mixed with sparkling water creates an amazing and refreshing taste that is made for the Cuban sun.

So when people now demanded to enjoy the same great taste without alcohol, the Classical Virgin Mojito Mocktail version was born.

  • 2 limes
  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 2 tablespoons agave syrup

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: Squeeze out the lime juice, and muddle the mint leaves

  • Cut the lime in half and squeeze the juice into a jug. Tear the fresh mint leaves into smaller pieces and add them to the jug, then muddle.

How to Muddle Properly

  • Press down gently and twist your muddler (or spoon handle)
  • You want to bruise the leaves, not completely destroy them
  • You should smell the mint getting stronger
  • 3 – 4 gentle presses and twists is enough
  • If you muddle too hard, you’ll make the drink bitter

Step 2: Combine the agave syrup and the lime mixture

  • Add a handful of ice cubes to the jug. Slowly pour the carbonated drink into the jug, stirring gently to mix all the ingredients together.
  • Take a sip. Too sour? Add more sweetener. Not minty enough? Muddle in another leaf or two. Not sweet enough? Add more syrup.

Step 4: Serve and garnish

  • Take a few mint leaves and gently crush them between your fingers to release their aroma. Use them as a garnish for the drink.
  • Serve in glasses filled with ice cubes and garnish each glass with a sprig of fresh mint. Add a colorful straw.

The Secret to a perfect Classical Virgin Mojito Mocktail

  • Muddling the mint leaves by gently pressing and bruising the leaves just enough to release those oils into the glass. Do not squeeze or shed the leaves to a burp because over-muddling tears the leaves apart and releases chlorophyll, the stuff that makes plants green. Chlorophyll has a bitter, grassy taste.ย
  • Use fresh ingredients, especially freshly squeezed lime juice. When it is freshly squeezed, it releases the beautiful aromatic oils from the lime peel. Bottled lime juice tastes flat and sometimes bitter. It’s like comparing a real orange to orange flavored drink mix.
  • Use crushed ice, it chills the drink instantly instead of a few large chunks. It also perfectly blends the flavours. As the fine ice crystals melt just a little, they dilute the drink, and help the mint oils, lime juice, and sweet syrup come together.
  • Timing Matters, make the drink right before you plan to drink it. Soda water loses fizz quickly once opened and mint starts to wilt after about 30 minutes.
