Pumpkin Crisp Recipe
For my pie lovers, you should try this Pumpkin Crisp Recipe.
Pumpkin Crisp is a very simple and easy to make dessert. It has a yummy pumpkin center and a great, double thick crunchy crust.
The double layer (Top and bottom) of crust is made from oats, flour, butter, and sugar and way thicker than normal crust used in a pie.
I first learned about this dessert from my friend, Ruth. She wanted to “up her game” for Thanksgiving, moving beyond the usual pie to impress her mother-in-law and kids, and she reached out for my help.
I immediately went online to find out about this amazing dish. Found the perfect recipe and emailed it to her.
She went ahead and made it for Thanksgiving, and the dessert was such a hit that her family hasn’t stopped praising her.
When she sent me cute photos of the finished dessert, I was stunned, it was the most gorgeous, golden brown masterpiece I had ever seen.
For the ultimate Thanksgiving experience, this dessert pairs perfectly with my Cinnamon Dolce Latte Recipe or Caramel Iced Coffee Recipe.
In this post, I’ll share everything you need to know to make your own perfect Pumpkin Crisp.

A Crumbly History

The dessert we call a “crisp” started in the mid-1800s. Back then, bakers figured out that mixing flour, butter and sugar into crumbs made a crunchy topping (called streusel).
This was much easier than rolling out pie dough. It was quick, simple, and always worked, a dream come true for busy bakers.
Pumpkin pie has a long history in America, showing up in cookbooks way back in the 1670s. But making pumpkin pie the old fashioned way was hard work.
You have to make the crust, prepare the pumpkin, and cook the filling perfectly. One mistake meant a soggy crust or a cracked top.
The easy mix of pumpkin filling and a crunchy crisp topping didn’t become popular until the 1960s and 70s. That’s when people started loving “dump desserts” recipes where you just pour all the ingredients into a pan and bake.
Pumpkin crisp was perfect for this new, simple way of baking.
